The Alberta government launched a rare probe into allegations of misconduct by elected officials in the City of Chestermere, according to a letter from Municipal Affairs Minister Ric McIver on March 10. McIver received numerous complaints about the governance of the city, including members of council allegedly acting outside of council resolution, code of conduct violations, and the sale of municipal property that violated the Municipal Government Act. The letter stated that McIver did not have enough information to determine if immediate intervention was required and that a preliminary review would be conducted, relying on voluntary participation, to determine if further action was necessary. Complaints of bullying, intimidation, and cronyism against the mayor and council members were also lodged with the province by Chestermere residents and city hall staff.
