Minister raises alarm over Chestermere council’s response to investigation

Posted underMunicipal AffairsCopied!

Municipal Affairs Minister Ric McIver has expressed serious concerns about the Chestermere city council’s response to a province-ordered investigation into their government’s management. After a municipal inspection revealed irregularities, the council was given binding directives to address the issues. McIver was disappointed with the council’s response to reviewing recommendations made by a third-party inspector in a 215-page report. The council’s attempt to discredit the report and its findings raised concerns. McIver warned of potential enforcement actions, including the removal of mayor, councillors, or city officials, if the directives aren’t followed satisfactorily. The council’s ongoing dispute with the investigation and the inspector has led to tensions between the province and the city council.
