City accused of stalling union negotiations

Posted underUnionCopied!

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) says that little progress has been made in collective bargaining negotiations with the City of Chestermere, nearly 10 months after its employees voted to unionize. CUPE indicates dysfunction in the city’s governance, highlighted in the recent inspection, has contributed to the delay in reaching an agreement. The investigation report found issues with the mayor and council that the union says are contributing to the drawn-out bargaining process. The union also criticized the city’s three-chief administrative officer model, which has added complications to the process. Mayor Jeff Colvin denied that the city is responsible for the stalled negotiations.
