City reviews draft municipal inspection report

Posted underMunicipal AffairsCopied!

The City of Chestermere held a private meeting with Ministry of Municipal Affairs officials to discuss the findings and recommendations of an investigation into allegations of improprieties within the city’s government. The report was compiled by a provincially appointed third party, municipal adviser George Cuff, who spent several months interviewing residents, current and former city staff, and elected officials. The decision on next steps now lies in the hands of newly appointed Municipal Affairs Minister Rebecca Schulz, who took over from Ric McIver in early October. Council has until December 9 to submit a response to the province regarding the investigation’s findings. The report will be made public at an undetermined date, at which point Schulz is expected to issue a ministerial order to the city as to how the situation should be remedied.
